High costs leads homeowner to Energize Bridgewater

Jessica is wearing a white sweater and standing in her home under a heat pump.

Shocked, was how Bridgewater homeowner Jessica Landry felt when she received an oil bill in the amount of $5,000, motivating her to find a more cost-effective and energy efficient way to heat her family home—this led her to Clean Energy Financing.

Offered by the Town of Bridgewater’s Energize Bridgewater program, and 11 other municipalities around Nova Scotia, Clean Energy Financing helps homeowners finance home energy upgrades like heat pumps, insulation and much more.

“Financing opens the program up and enables more people to benefit. It makes it feel inclusive—especially with the low interest rate,” said Jessica about CEF.

Jessica knew she needed another source of heat, such as heat pumps, which would require a new electrical panel. Clean Energy Financing helped Jessica to finance and install four heat pumps and the work needed to update her electric panel.

Now that all the upgrades are installed, and with the warm and humid summer we’ve had, Jessica’s home is significantly more comfortable.

“We’ve noticed a lot of change,” she says. “The dehumidifier setting on the heat pump has been great for this summer with the humidity. It’s more cost effective than running the air conditioning, which is a nice perk.”

Jessica also found the whole Clean Energy Financing process simple, from filling out the application through to getting upgrades installed.

Having one customer representative is really helpful. She gave me a checklist to help me get everything sorted, which was helpful and instills confidence,” Jessica says. “It’s nice to have the same person every time you call so they know who you are and the details of your application.
